About 67% of Ugandans are either poor or highly vulnerable to poverty as per the expenditure review for Uganda in 2012 by the Directorate of Social protection in the gender ministry and these spend below the poverty line of $1.20 a day . The disparities in regions differ across Uganda coupled with hunger in some parts of the region like karamoja at some incidences they go without food . BYIDI has come up with several interventions like self help initiatives and mobilization of financial support for agriculture to increase productivity for food security and alleviate hunger that affects communities. There is a belief that communities cannot be helped unless they themselves agree to the process.
